Narcissu (108)

xD Hey everyone, just coming in to say that I recently (a couple minutes ago) found out that both Narcissu and Narcissu -Second Side- are fully released, translated, and officially free =D. Apparently it has been that way for a short while now, but in any case, I am feeling quite psyched about it (haven't read it yet).

Anyways, I'm attempting to persuade anyone who would actually be dedicated to porting it over (not like me and my laziness...), because I'm definitely sure it is going to be an amazing visual novel.

Huh.... since the first has no choices at all that I can remember from old faint memory, that sounds like something I could do with my now fairly unbusy self.

I'm not sure about the second though. I haven't played it. Actually, I didn't know it was released... oh, it's not? Oh wait, it is, just not at the site I had bookmarked! Well, what do you know...

Guess I have a story to read!

4 Name: CXBlackCatXD : 2010-05-26 20:45 ID:+9rYqOIC [Del]

>>Oh wait, it is, just not at the site I had bookmarked!

That is exactly the same reason why I didn't find out about it until now xD. Thus it led me to post this thread to enlighten others like myself (and apparently it has helped at least one person =D).

5 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-05-27 10:20 ID:rhvjlrUh [Del]

So, extracted the .nsa files, found the script file (took me a while, I was expecting the .dat or .txt file, not that .utf file...).

Created a quick program to strip out the Japanese comments in the file (for cleaner reading and a smaller file) and managed to make a text file that was unreadable in notepad AND notepad++ 0_o. I don't know how, but it causes both programs to become indefinitely hung. Never done that before, and I've done lots of c++ file stuff. Any ideas of why?

So yeah, I'm tired. I'm gonna go play Monster Hunter Tri and eat breakfast.

6 Name: CXBlackCatXD : 2010-05-27 14:22 ID:+9rYqOIC [Del]

It might be the size of the files (my notepad++ hangs a ton when I open up a large file), though I'm betting you waited a fair bit longer than the general nub...I suppose you could recheck everything in your program to make sure nothing is screwing it up...otherwise you are probably stuck on manual (at least it opens up with the original file xD).

Awesome.

Narcissu -Second Side-.

/morale support.

>>6
Yeah, the original is fine. I'm not exactly sure how I'm screwing up. I think it has something to do with my program screwing up the Japanese characters and saving them weird, but I thought that just made the characters turn funky.
Anyway, I'm sorta workin' on it. I've managed to pick out most of the menu sections and the actual script.

>>7
Thanks.

9 Name: Anonymous : 2010-05-28 23:53 ID:5V0e8t8n [Del]

Yeah, I'd like to help, but can't program. I only leech off places like this.

But it's great that you're getting somewhere.

10 Name: Hogan : 2010-05-31 06:08 ID:xFMCgelc [Del]

Hey ya'll,

Didn't realize they finally finished 2nd side translation, awesome.
I'm up for helping, I remember waaay back in the day I started to work on a port for the 2nd side demo, So once I'm uncapped tomorrow I'll get the latest and see what I can do to help.

Just to be sure: we're doing 2nd side, yeah? Because the original has been ported for donkey's years...

11 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-06-01 07:00 ID:2V9rcehR [Del]

Yeah, the 2nd side. Interestingly... I think it would be fine to have a couple of people porting it. The release has 2-3 slightly different translations that would be nice to keep in there.
Also, I'd like to keep it the way it is, with the first in there too. Anyway, just got back from vacation so I'll start working on it now.

12 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-06-05 01:21 ID:fLHXT6hx [Del]

Ok, so, I finally got the decommenter to work. Doesn't get comments at the end of a normal line and some random comments (not sure why some get through...) but makes it a lot easier to read. Anybody have a quick link to nscripter commands so I can tell what some of these odder ones are? I get most of them, but some are a little different than what I would expect.

Plus, side 2 has choice flags I think, dangit. So it'll take a little longer to port than I thought. If you're already working on it Hogan, now would be the time to tell me so I don't do a whole lot of work for nothing.

Oh, and my internet sucks right now. I'm moving around a lot, so I might not update very often with what I'm doing. Sorry. I'll try to have a demo out before the end of next week as long as I have internet at the time. Can't guarantee it though. I'm a lazy person.

13 Name: Hogan : 2010-06-05 02:25 ID:xFMCgelc [Del]

Was gonna start, but exams are kicking in, so I'll leave most up to you.
I can cover all the bg/sprite conversions, If you're working on the script. Not that that's very much to do, but having more than one person on the script can get messy.

14 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-06-05 19:14 ID:fLHXT6hx [Del]

It shouldn't be too bad. I've basically used Notepad++'s ability to compress {~}'s together to make discrete parts of the script easily picked apart. I have Haeleth's Narc 1 and 2 sections, Agilis's Narc 1 and 2 sections, and GP32's Narc 1 sections, all collapsed.
If you're willing to do the conversions, I'm fine with that. I'm not too keen on getting into that stuff.

Does anybody have preferences on who's Narcissu 2 translation is done first? They're the same, yet different. Haeleth's is supposedly translated to sound more natural while forsaking a little accuracy, and Agilis's translates closer to the original while sacrificing a little readability.

15 Name: CXBlackCatXD : 2010-06-05 20:30 ID:+9rYqOIC [Del]

I'd like to see Agilis's translation probably...I'm tempted to see just how inaccurate it sounds compared to what I would say (if you read Haeleth's first, you probably think there is something wrong with Agilis right? So read the lesser accurate one first =D)

16 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-06-05 22:03 ID:fLHXT6hx [Del]

Alright, good, because that's the one I started with :)
Agilis's is probably more accurate though, or rather, more literal. If you install the game and read the notes, that's how he describes himself and Haeleth's translation.

Specifically:
"He [Haeleth] described his style/goal for this work as: 'To produce as natural an English script as possible, preserving the sense by not always the exact expression.'"
"I [Agilis] described mine as: 'To stay close to the text and recreate the mental experience of reading the original.'"

17 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-06-06 00:42 ID:fLHXT6hx [Del]

Here's the link to a rough demo of the prologue of Narcissu 2's Agilis Translation. It has a few problems (A wrong command or two, and the cicada sound effect at the sky scene sound like a jet o_0. Better than it was before I converted them from ogg to aac though), but it's playable.
http://www.mediafire.com/?y2cobg12rw3

I've managed to get a program that takes the base nscripter code, takes out all the comments, then interprets the 4 basics: text, backgrounds, sounds, and music. It's still not finished and buggy, but it helps tremendously with making the VNDS code. I don't have to do too much of the grunt work this way :)

21 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-06-06 23:31 ID:fLHXT6hx [Del]

Uh, then that would be Haeleth, I think he's British.
Well, I could do his prologue and add it to the next demo and let readers decide from actual content which should be finished first.

22 Name: Anonymous : 2010-06-07 19:18 ID:5V0e8t8n [Del]

Oh it doesn't matter. Sure sounds nice; but I'll wait for the finished option.

23 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-06-10 22:55 ID:yqm5zSr7 [Del]

Ok, so, I've been trying to change my sound effect files, or actually any sound/music file with the VNDS SoundEncoder tool, and it never does anything with any files I throw at it. Am I doing something wrong? Is it supposed to be some specific format to be converted to music, or aac, or whatever the third one is?
No matter what I try to give it, it never does anything. It sees the files, they show up in the conversion log. But nothing ever gets changed.

24 Post deleted by moderator.

25 Name: CXBlackCatXD : 2010-06-11 08:45 ID:+9rYqOIC [Del]

The only thing I've ever noticed about the vndstools is that whenever you put in something to convert, it deletes anything that isn't going to be converted and the things that are converted can't go from the same extension (ie. .mp3 ---> .mp3 doesn't work).

26 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-06-11 16:47 ID:q9k8GmiU [Del]

Yeah, that's the weird thing. It is trying to use them, they show up in the log. Just nothing gets done to them.
Anyway, except for a few hiccups, I've used Super(c) to encode all the sound effects. Sound a lot better now. For some reason though, it errors on small files. So sounds less than a second long and/or smaller than ~3kb when converted don't finish correctly and a cut-off or just the wrong sound. Anybody have any idea on this?

Also, for those following this project, I finished (I think) all of the prologue stuff. 1300 lines of VNDS script so far, who knows how much else to go. I'll say I'm at, oh, 3.87% of the total script (1300/33600, not totally accurate at all, but close enough to give an idea).

Ok, half of the sound effects work, all the music works, I've reworked all the menus, named the chapters and allow you to pick them like it's set up in the original, added chapter 3, and added in a full Music Box with the music from both the first the second Narcissu.

Unfortunately, I also completely reworked the background, sound effect, and music files, meaning right now EVERYTHING is included. Not just the stuff it's using right now, but everything it will probably ever use and quite a few things it will never use. As such, the size has grown exponentially. It's sitting at 74.45 MB.

If anyone wants to try/test the new features and give feedback, here's the link:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/za0xnnotemv/Narcissu 2 - VNDS (Ch3).7z

As it is, it's very rough in the chapter content. However, people might be interested in hearing this: I have a very basic Nscript-to-VNDS program up and running.

It's horrible as far as coding is concerned, but it does numerous things. First, it safely strips most comments. Then adds brackets around labels for easy reading. After that, it goes through and translates everything that can be used easily in VNDS (that means bgload, music, sound, and text commands) while culling everything else. After that, it finishes up by turning around the slashes so that the file lookups in VNDS work correctly.

This will speed up my converting a huge amount. Instead of taking a few hours to do a chapter, it takes 10 minutes of quick run-through. I suspect it would also help a lot in ANY nscript VN too. Though I'm not entirely sure about that.

For those that like numbers, I'm around 7.44% done. Whoo!

28 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-06-12 05:12 ID:q9k8GmiU [Del]

Well, that link kinda failed. Here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?za0xnnotemv

29 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-06-12 06:44 ID:q9k8GmiU [Del]

Ok, just to show how much the program helped, I added in Chapters 4-12 in ONE HOUR. I might actually finish Agilis's translation by some time next week.

I say next week because, even though it's added in, I'll still need to do some work to fix the timing of the backgrounds (might be easy), the sound effects (damn them), and get rid of all the trash code still left in the VNDS script.

Here's the newest link, clocking in at 74.49MB:
http://www.mediafire.com/?mmwdioziimm

And, from now on until I finish the entire thing, I can simply update the scripts and everything will already be there. That means I can only upload the scripts and if you've downloaded the large package once already, all you'll have to do is replace the old scripts with the new. Whoo!

30 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-06-12 06:48 ID:q9k8GmiU [Del]

Oh, and also, by adding in those scripts it skyrocketed my totally bs percentage up to 19.94% (6700/33600)!

31 Name: CXBlackCatXD : 2010-06-12 16:22 ID:+9rYqOIC [Del]

xD Congratz. I can't wait to see how it turns out when its finished. I'm downloading the latest just to listen to the music, though maybe in a little bit since I'm poking at something at the moment =D.

32 Name: CXBlackCatXD : 2010-06-12 17:11 ID:+9rYqOIC (Image: 32x32 png, 1 kb) [Del]

Oh, here is a temporary icon (the current one...well I'm guessing it doesn't need an explanation) that was quickly thrown together just to satisfy myself. Once someone has more time, maybe they could make a good icon for it, but until then feel free to use this icon.
http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/3269/iconjs.png

33 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-06-12 18:01 ID:q9k8GmiU [Del]

Alright, thanks. Yeah, my icons were totally really-quick placeholders. That'll be good for a more official-looking one.
And I've been listening to the music myself. I love the instruments used and the melody in most of the songs. It's the exact type of song I look for all the time for relaxation.

34 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-06-13 06:39 ID:q9k8GmiU [Del]

Ok, since I'm an insomniac fool, I went ahead and finished up Agilis's translation of Narcissu 2. I not only added the remaining chapters, I also fixe the timing of the backgrounds (it was easy), put subtitles in most of the images that had unreadable words, and got rid of the majority of the junk code.

As such, and as I promised, here's the zipped script folder:
http://www.mediafire.com/?ynrm2jmhy5m
And the zipped image folder:
http://www.mediafire.com/?dmd2xhintmz

Make sure to completely delete your script and background/agilis/2 folders before putting these in there to make sure there isn't junk left behind.

For anybody who has been holding off downloading anything until the main story was done, here's the link for the complete project updated with everything:
http://www.mediafire.com/?dzyrmzwwmwz

Known Issue: For some reason, the last choice selection of the Narcissu 1 side of the musicbox page is messed up. I don't think I can fix that except by making the Narcissu 1 side have two pages like when selecting chapters.
Considering it took 19 entries on the chapter selection to make it start corrupting and the Narcissu 2 musicbos side, which has more selections, isn't corrupt, I don't see why it's messing up.

35 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-06-13 08:18 ID:q9k8GmiU [Del]

On a note related to the post in the random crap thread, I've got voices mostly working. Due to the problems I cited, short things are clipped or don't play at all, but I had Setsumi speaking. Probably the only time she'll 'talk' more than Himeko does.

...

Sorry, that was pretty bad.

36 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-06-14 15:31 ID:uMH+jRRK [Del]

I'm having lots of problems with the sound effect files. The VNDS audio tool doesn't work for me, and I can't find any AAC encoder that will either 1- encode in mono or 2- work on small <6 kb files.
So, if anybody has the time and their VNDS audio converter is working, I'd appreciate it if you would convert them for me. The total size of all the sound effects combined is only ~5MB. It'll be almost half that once converted correctly

37 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-06-15 19:32 ID:uMH+jRRK [Del]

Full voice? Sound effects all work? Heck yeah!

38 Name: Hogan : 2010-06-15 21:28 ID:xFMCgelc [Del]

haha, nice!

39 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-06-16 12:45 ID:uMH+jRRK [Del]

Full voice? Sound effects all work? Agilis AND Haeleth, Voiced AND Unvoiced? Pretty menus? Global variable that keeps track of which chapters you've unlocked? Easy setup for adding in Narcissu 1's three translations (you don't really care about that)?

There's just one problem. Remember I said I should only have to upload the updated stuff? Well, with the ENTIRE THING having been updated so much all at once, I'm going to have to release a complete that you'll have to download anyway. And it's big, really big.
If you want it without sound, it'll be a 4.78 MB download.
If you want it without voices, it'll be a 72.8 MB download.
If you want it with voices, it'll be a 125 MB download.

I'm uploading now, and will post the links once it's finished. My upstream here is slow slow slow.

Argh!!! To whoever downloaded the full version, I'm sorry! Something went wrong and I uploaded an old version!
I'm so sorry!
I'll try to fix this as soon as possible. Freaking dangit!

42 Name: Anonymous : 2010-06-17 16:28 ID:pWOerz33 [Del]

original R4 user here...i m using vnds 1.5.3, and but some odd reason, ch3up aren't unlocked even though i've read ch2...doubled checked to see if the scripts are there, and they are(didnt unzipped them); any one able to provide help?

43 Name: Anonymous : 2010-06-17 16:30 ID:pWOerz33 [Del]

^same anon...guess i need to refresh more often lol^^;
hope to see the proper/new version up soon, thanks for your hard works

44 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-06-17 19:01 ID:JR2mdDQO [Del]

Yeah, sorry about that. I had accidentally not updated my own script.zip. Which meant you had a slightly out of date version. Basically, I had named my chapter open variable incorrectly in the old version. Plus a few other minor things, like Haeleth's non-voiced scripts still taking you back to Agilis's voiced or something like that.
Since it was only the scripts that were screwed up, thankfully all you'll have to do is download the no sound version and replace your script.zip with the one from the new download. Sorry for the confusion.

Also, since I figured it would be a better way of doing it right now, I split up the downloads a little differently this time. Everyone has to download the no-sound version. The sound files will be separate downloads for those who want them, but don't want to wait to be able to play (if you have slower internet).

For now, here's the nosound version:
http://www.mediafire.com/?mbh2ujmttuj

I'll be uploading the sound files shortly.

45 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-06-18 03:35 ID:JR2mdDQO [Del]

No Voices - http://www.mediafire.com/?n1twyymdzmh
Full Sound - http://www.mediafire.com/?4zykyik3jiz

Using these is simple, download the nosound version in the above post, and put the sound.zip folder inside these .7z files directly inside the nosound folder, along with all the other .zip's.

Alright, everything except weird text errors should be fixed now. Those will be fixed in the final few editing phases since they don't detract from the story.

Now I'll take a break and, you know, actually read the story myself :)

46 Name: Anonymous : 2010-06-18 13:33 ID:pWOerz33 [Del]

at least the scripts from #44 makes it able to past ch2, so in terms of scripts it should be fine
thanks for the upload

47 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-06-18 15:11 ID:JR2mdDQO [Del]

Yeah, I've read through up until "Pineapple Tree" with all the chapters unlocking like they are supposed to. The scripts, at least variable/bg/sound wise, should be fine. There are still odd places in the actual text, but nothing major that I know of. It'll all get fixed up in the full-run editing phase I have planned at the very end.
Enjoy, I'll be taking a little break from porting since I finished so much this fast. Then I'll add in Narc1, the notes, and the Epilogue when I finish up.

48 Name: Anonymous : 2010-06-20 11:01 ID:nEJcVm4q [Del]

This is awesome! Thanks for porting this.

49 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-06-20 11:46 ID:JR2mdDQO [Del]

You're welcome. Nice to get a thanks :)

50 Name: Anonymous : 2010-06-20 15:39 ID:kfgWk/pj [Del]

I decided to download N1 the other day before reading N2, and somehow I get a male voice from setsumi, I thought I was getting voice from saya lol...
It seems like that voice files are played at a really slow rate, but the sounds(bgm) have no problem...anyone know a fix to this?

51 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-06-20 16:45 ID:JR2mdDQO [Del]

Well, the good news is that the creator says that reading N2 and then N1 is perfectly fine, since N2 is a prologue to N1.
As far as the N1 port audio is concerned, I didn't have anything to do with it and I'm not sure why it's screwed up now. Does it work in older versions? I'm getting the same problem, which could be from wrong frequency or multi-channel. Not sure which.

If you really want me to, it wouldn't be too hard to redo the voice files....

52 Name: Anonymous : 2010-06-20 19:00 ID:kfgWk/pj [Del]

Well i read N1 before you port N2 over, so I have actually done that...its more a sense of collection/completeness hahah

Weird thing was I had no problem with it with the previous version(which-ever version that was(/those were), as I don't remember), voices and sounds were absolutely fine; but as I said, i don't remember what version(novel and vnds) it was.

Either way, I would definitely appreciate it if you have free time and wouldn't mind giving it a little fix =)

Once again, thank you for the assistance and hard-work.

53 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-06-20 21:31 ID:JR2mdDQO [Del]

Alright, well, were you also having a no-image problem too, where the whole game is black up top? The version of Narc1DS I downloaded had .jpg files in the backgrounds but .png in the scripts. If so, I've also included fixed scripts (simple find/replace).

Here's the link:
http://www.mediafire.com/?zeybntmj4vw

So... yeah, once I get back to porting, I'll have the first Narcissu also included in my Narc2, just like in the normal computer version. I intend to have a complete port with everything intact. Until then, I'll watch the board for any other problems. Adieu!

54 Name: CXBlackCatXD : 2010-06-21 01:31 ID:+9rYqOIC [Del]

Lol, sounds like I missed a bit on my vacation. The Narcissu2 port seems to be going well (I'm glad I spoke out about it xD), congratz on getting as far as you have and keep it up d(>.<)b

55 Name: Anonymous : 2010-06-21 12:25 ID:kfgWk/pj [Del]

Lovely fix, it is working fine now =)
Thank you for the fix, please keep up the good work, I am looking forward to the complete port~

56 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-06-24 18:26 ID:aRynMaSu [Del]

So, I think I found a bug in my scripts. If you finish the last chapter on any translation/voicing, it sets my chapter counter to 19. Well.... my chapter selection if/fi block only goes to 18. It's possible that after finishing the VN you can't read it anymore.
Whoops. Sorry if that's the case! I'll have a fixed script out with the Narcissu 1 translation soon.

57 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-06-24 21:07 ID:aRynMaSu [Del]

So, whenever I use nsaout to unpack the files for Narcissu 2, quite a few of the image files for Narcissu 1 are corrupt or something. Nothing can open them. However, they work fine in Narcissu so either the unpacker is messing them up or I'm doing something wrong.
Anybody know anything?

58 Name: CXBlackCatXD : 2010-06-24 22:23 ID:+9rYqOIC [Del]

I say its the visual novel xD! (I haven't check the files yet, I think I extracted it already though...nvm I didn't). Worst comes to worst, you could probably unpack Narcissu and use the source images from there...although I don't know if the filenames are different (though it wouldn't be super hard to change the scripts using Notepad++ and use the other images...just troublesome).

59 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-06-24 22:42 ID:aRynMaSu [Del]

Well, I found the problem.
Wouldn't you know, the nsaout.exe I had can't handle compressed .bmps. I had a long post about it, but instead of whining I just fixed it. Once I fixed it, the images worked just fine.
Thankfully the writer of nsaout included the source, and had commented in the section where it was supposed to be handling that. So, following his comment, I was able to modify it to work. So now I have the images.
My brain hurts now though....

60 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-06-26 00:57 ID:G3n9Elan [Del]

And... yeah, I found a much, much worse bug in my scripts. If you read into the second page of chapters, it completely bugs out. Totally my fault, I forgot to put in the catch for stuff past 10 on the first page chapter selection...

Anyway, it screws up.
Here's the fixed script.zip:
http://www.mediafire.com/?mjuommy4myz

Oh, and btw, that's part of my new line of scripts. It actually includes the Narcissu 1 Agilis translation in it and a lot of other Narcissu 1 changes. However, since you won't have all the resources to play it the thing might be very buggy. I recommend not to start it right now.
If you don't want the temptation, just switch your N2* folders with the new ones in the zip.

And yes, I am working diligently on it. Sorta. Don't have anything better to do. And it's fun for some reason.

My verification word was "feackish." What a weird word.
I'm writing too much, delirious tired. Gah.

Alright, so to make a promise and get my butt in gear a bit the next release will have all of Narcissu 1 and 2, which is 5 different translations.
This is to be released before, or on the day of, the 4th of July. Be looking forward to it. If I really work hard, I might also have the extra Epilogue, and the different notes. I don't promise them though, just the main stuff. So there, now I have to get it done by then.
July 4th.

Because I want to keep myself on-schedule, I'll release a small progress report: Everything is done.
Yes, everything. If it was in the computer version, it's in my VNDS version. Narcissu 1+2 with the 5 different translations (2 for 1, 3 for 2), the notes, extra music page, and epilogue. Bar a few errors and places to patch up to look/run better, it's pretty much done. I even went through the 1.1 script and updated mine with the relevant changes.

Also, I started getting errors on a couple of images I was using, so I deleted the cache folder on my card and they magically started working again....

Anyway, I'm on schedule to have a complete port in nearly every way possible bar some impossible-to-replicate commands (like the movie). Editing and error-checking all this stuff is going to be hell.

63 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-07-01 00:45 ID:aDd2hig4 [Del]

Well, I got the translations backward up there. 2 trans. for Narc 2, 3 trans for Narc 1.

Ok, I've begun uploading Revision 2, which has everything like I said in #62, plus one little extra note from me that opens up at the same time the final epilogue opens up. The port also has completely redone menus that are modified versions of the computer ones (looks much nicer), along with the music info that pops up when you start a song. It is all still kinda rough, but I don't know much about fine image making so it'll have to do for now.

One factoid: Setsumi ISN'T the only person voiced in Narcissu 1. Her mom actually get's about 4~6 lines of speech too.

Oh, and the final epilogue is great. Just read it about 2 hours ago. I'm still kinda teary from finishing Narcissu 2 and reading it. Such a wonderful story. I hope somebody eventually translates Narcissu 3.

Anyway, now all I have to do is wait for the upload to finish. Ciao!

Here it is:
Narcissu 2 Release 2 (No Sound):
http://www.mediafire.com/?tyzwdmzzw2l
Sound (No Voices):
http://www.mediafire.com/?dl4ymrycqoh
Sound (With Voices):
http://www.mediafire.com/?i41d2zizojd

Barring bad audio files somewhere (I don't think there is any, I've listened to all of them, but you never know) this should be the last sound I'll ever have to make.

[Edit] Good thing I did one last check of the easy stuff (menus and the like). I caught a small problem with the musicbox page and a few small other things. Nothing that broke things, cosmetic, but better than clipped-off images and stuff.

So I'm guessing that this is pretty much the final release of Narcissu2 xD. Now you just need someone to come up with a better icon (so we can burn the placeholder icon). Or you could just use the Narcissu icon (since the port does contain both anyways).

src/1278546713932.png: 32x32, 1 kb

Here's the original icon for the Windows version of Narcissu 2 in the icon.png 32x32 version for VNDS. I don't think you can get much better than this. It should do.
I intend to eventually finish up with a bugfix final, but I'll only have to re-release the "No Sound" file with the backgrounds/foregrounds/scripts. So you don't have to worry about redownloading the sound files again.
However, who knows when I'll get around to it.

68 Name: CXBlackCatXD : 2010-07-09 01:51 ID:+9rYqOIC (Image: 100x75 png, 15 kb) [Del]

src/1278665483755.png: 100x75, 15 kb

I did a really quick thumbnail (the Narcissu1 port's image gave me the idea) and even though it was a cheap job, I still like how it turned out (its definitely better than the currently resized image at least).

I also did a small tweak to the icon so that it doesn't have the white background: http://img534.imageshack.us/img534/3933/iconnl.png

I might just do a little bit of tweaking on the musicbox page after you have finished up all of the bugfixing(though it might take a couple of extra images) so it matches the original visual novel more. On the notes.scr you could use "text @" and a delay or two so you don't have to have two parenthesized pieces.

If I end up finding anything that could be made better cosmetically, then I'll probably give you the tweaked files so you can include them if you want (I feel I should at least do something since I DID request the visual novel xD).

69 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-07-09 03:40 ID:v0ax98zX [Del]

That's fine, do whatever. Actually, once of the last major things I wanted to do was re-convert the images to .jpg format instead of .png (so they were smaller and looked better) and then subtitle the images that were impossible to read due to the scaling.
Right now, a lot of the images look crappy, and dithering didn't seem to want to work.

Thanks for the port guys. And I see you have a captcha. Sweet upgrades man.

71 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-07-21 09:11 ID:ryIQBJRy [Del]

There were six lines in the scripts with *.wav instead of *.aac. I've fixed those. Just put this zip file straight into the VN's folder on the DS, overwriting the current file.

Nice!

Using my new script checker, I found a whole lot of lines that were screwed-up/wrong, so here's the fixed version of the scripts:
http://www.mediafire.com/?m2qidkbfuffqg8d

I 7zip'ed this one, so make sure to take it out of the .7z file first before sticking it in the novel folder on the DS.

hey, can someone upload the first Narcissu for VNDS? ive tried downloading it but the link is broken. thanks in advance!

The first Narcissu is also included in the Narcissu2 port (it was in the PC version as well), so you can just download the Narcissu2 port and use that.

You can get the latest one together by downloading from >>65 and >>73...and you can get the icon and thumbnail from >>68.

Can somebody upload them to a different site? mediafire doesn't seem to work for me. :(

What works for you? I don't own an account anywhere, so it'd have to be a place that allows either anonymous or free-account uploading.

Rapidshare or Megaupload works for me. Thanks in advance. ^^

84 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-09-07 16:33 ID:hvUb+ZzH [Del]

Megaupload Mirrors for Narcissu 2:

--Base (required to play, no sound):
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=MB3EBR3I

--Sound "No Voices" (sound.zip with everything but voices, not required):
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=TQL5HF1P

--Sound "With Voices" (sound.zip with everything, not required):
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=KJBS8D1H

This is slightly superior to the Mediafire links, as the updated scripts and nicer icon/thumbnail are already included in the Base download (I hope, I think they're the newest stuff).

um, i've been having some trouble with the voices and things
i keep hearing this annoying low sort of clicking in the right ear, but i can hear voice and some sounds, i don't know if i should be hearing music...

the clicking happens after text appears, so it seems like some sound file is trying to play but for some reason it just does the clicking thing

i have a folder within the novels folders with the nosound .7z file so that there are multiple .zip files in the folder, and in that folder i have the sound.zip

can anybody help me?

I'm not sure I'm completely understanding the setup you're describing so I'm sorry if I'm mistaken, but did you say you basically have a folder for Narcissu inside your novels folder, but there are multiple zips in it?

First off, be sure you have the version with sound. Within that zip, there are probably other zips for foreground, background, sound, scripts, etc. What you need to do is unzip the sound version of the game into your novels folder. Then, go into the directory you just unzipped (it's probably just called "Narcissu") and unzip everything in there as well, so you have folders for all that stuff above (sound, scripts, etc). If you have "sound" still zipped, the sound won't work correctly.

So in a nutshell, when you said "in that folder I have the sound.zip", just...unzip it :)

Just download Narcissu 2, it comes with the original and it doesn't have that buzzing sound.

so i unzip everything in the sound folder that i unzip

do i have to unzip the files in the base?

and i have the narcissu 2 files from the megaupload post

92 Name: Gaidai : 2010-12-10 07:54 ID:uOrut72p [Del]

Geh, I'd remember this better if I were at home right now and remembered how the narcissu downloads were bundled. Shin's got a point...just getting Narcissu 2 will give you both of them, though I never had a buzzing sound problem when I was just playing the first one. The .zip you downloaded probably contains something like this:

narcissu.zip
--sound.zip
--background.zip
--foreground.zip
--scripts.zip
--several other unzipped files

When you add it to your novels folder on your DS, you should unzip everything so that you have this:

narcissu (folder)
--sound (folder)
--background (folder)
--foreground (folder)
--scripts (folder)
--the same several other unzipped files as above

See if that helps.

93 Name: CXBlackCatXD : 2010-12-10 09:52 ID:+9rYqOIC [Del]

You actually don't have to unzip most of it...It is supposed to be able to use the novel even with some zipped up folders (less of a copying hassle anyways).

narcissu.zip
--sound.zip
--background.zip
--foreground.zip
--scripts.zip
--several other unzipped files

narcissu (folder)
--sound.zip
--background.zip
--foreground.zip
--scripts.zip
--several other unzipped files
