wow, we've actually taken this project off the ground, ey?

First off, that pic is a complete mock-up. Sorry, I just felt like being creative ^^

ok, here's the very rough script:

http://www.mediafire.com/?xtxnnm5kdoq

Still have to remove the line number and replace them with TEXT, and it needs some cleanup (there were random characters in a few places), which I'll work on.

As you can also see, I've just started to go through and add marks relating to what is happening in the game (SFX, Music, Voice, sprite, BG, etc).

The pics are kinda odd. They're are sprites not only for Yumemi and here face, arms, and hair-band thingi, but also for random parts of the background that move slightly...

Here's the Pics, if you're interested:

http://www.mediafire.com/?yw3yfzyq24h

note the folder "images to be cleaned up". I think these pics were used as animation, so tbh the easiest way is to pick one and just crop them.

However, the pics are kinda all over the shop, so I think your idea of the screen-caps + facial sprites seems tops.

If you’d like, we can split the script up, and if you like the key I’ve set up, go through the game using that, then I can convert what we write into VDNS script.

2 Name: Dilt : 2009-04-19 21:06 ID:9lDbjY8F [Del]

Yeah. Can you remove the line numbers yourself? I have a regex find and replacer that could take up all of those lines and change them to TEXT in one pass if you'd like.

3 Name: Hogan : 2009-04-19 23:07 ID:6obqr2H0 [Del]

Yup, done. sorry, I was planing to do that before putting it up, but I've had to rush off, so I'll convert it, check if it works, then post it tonight.
Btw, nice working with you ^^

4 Name: Dilt : 2009-04-19 23:18 ID:9lDbjY8F [Del]

Aye. Tried to actually do it myself at first, but my extractor didn't get the face/ribbon sprites or even the script. To tell you the truth, if you have the ribbons and face sprites, it probably wouldn't be hard to convert it to VNDS. There aren't that many special effects, and it's a linear storyline. Nothing like the four-loop choice fondling passarounds of Clannad.

5 Name: Anonymous : 2009-04-19 23:22 ID:PFztv/WO [Del]

Are you porting the voiced version?

Looking forward to this port.

6 Name: Dilt : 2009-04-19 23:28 ID:9lDbjY8F [Del]

Oh, right. Sorry for double post, but could you post the actual completely RAW script file? It was encrypted when I tried to get it out, but if you have something intact that can be parsed through a little differently, it'd be a big help. I have the feeling you sort of chopped out most of the non-actual-text from the story (mainly because of a left-in wait{400}). I would find the unedited script more useful, because I could get something together that would parse the information directly, and we wouldn't have to do things by hand.

7 Name: Anonymous : 2009-04-20 02:04 ID:FrqlBEnM [Del]

Lol, this seems like a lot more fun that before. So many foreground pictures =). (Nice to be working with you all too btw) I think I'll actually use the animations frames if they load quick enough in vnds (or maybe just use like two-three frames and loop it). The script file you hosted is great (it is so much nicer to look at), but the raw script would be nice (since it has all of the timings and delays). I think I'll try out using the same method as Key with the foreground to see if vnds can handle it (I know there is a limit to foreground images somewhere...) since that is probably the best way to reduce the overall file size (and it is so large already).
Looks like my prtscn, copy/paste, read&type method can be burned now (cue *holy light). My homework is supposed to let up this week anyways (woot for hard tests that I am "studying" for) so hopefully I can bite at this.

8 Name: Hogan : 2009-04-20 06:07 ID:TiI/7M7v [Del]

what are you talking about, its still fun ^^
The sprites of the ribbons, etc are in the images zip (if you missed it, its http://www.mediafire.com/?yw3yfzyq24h )
I had to extract them from the PS2 Disk, which is where i got the SFX and Voice as well.
Heres the scripts in the purest form i could get them: http://www.mediafire.com/?mzqctmzyzuj
...which by loking at em, they won't nessesarily help..

As for the animation, I'm far from an expert (hence the first time tag), but I've got a feeling making the images load on a loop will put too much strian on the DS. dunno

9 Name: Hogan : 2009-04-20 07:53 ID:TiI/7M7v [Del]

ah, sorry for the double post:
http://www.mediafire.com/?qjgmnzygvdy

Above is a zip containing the Edited Seen files, that i replaced the numbers with VNDS syntax. So it's without any timings, etc, but it works on DS, sans images and sound...

I've actully just included the 'novels' folder i used to test in on DS, which also includes the sound for the first 'scene' (the 30 seconds before the junker arrives), howver they're not encoded properly, somthing I'll fix (alond with the rest of the sounds) after i get some sleep ^^

10 Name: Anonymous : 2009-04-21 21:27 ID:FrqlBEnM [Del]

Lol, well I tried out the animation idea and it works, but since it was just rain, it was kind of hard to actually see if anything was happening but I'm pretty sure that I saw a flashing patch of changing colors (only now do i realize I could have just tried some blank colored images rather than the rain...). I only tried at about 10 fps (I think that was what it was, the DS runs at 60 fps and if I remember correctly, delay was in those frames). Also, Key's version of loading the foreground is much better than piecing the pictures together. Piecing them (with mspaint, I know stupid really) just wastes time and puts out lame quality.

The DS can handle the foregrounds fine as they are (although i think the face either shifted down when i resized, or some other oddity since her face shifted down by a pixel) and much more nicely than using the background then face idea (the background gets priority and then the setimg giving Yumemi a faceless body for a fraction of a second that really looks bad). The setimg load about the same time and is much better.

Also, Hogan you were right about the raw script (in my case at least...) but your link for the edited seen files is broken (missing or deleted).

11 Name: Hogan : 2009-04-22 07:46 ID:TiI/7M7v [Del]

Ah that's actually good news if you got it working, because it can be used for the flickering projector images near the end.

I've actually been doing some work on it myself, which means that we've probably overlapped, but anyhoo:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/3va6uq

That file contains what I've done so far. it includes:
-fully working script, including a chapter select mode (took a while to get right, but see what you think)
-All Background resized and recoloured (some were too white to be seen properly on the DS), and all implemented into the script
-All Background Music re-encoded (but not implemented yet, hopefully I'll have it done by the next few days, as well as the SFX)

Still working on the Voices also. Converter supplied w/ VNDS isn't working, so I'm getting another converter.

12 Name: Anonymous : 2009-04-22 12:14 ID:9lDbjY8F [Del]

Move the stuff in /tools/ to the main directory. The converter works once you do that, it seems.

13 Name: Anonymous : 2009-04-22 16:21 ID:FrqlBEnM [Del]

Man, I wouldn't have used my time renaming everything.
I kind of just realized this, but the script doesn't have the markers for the foreground anymore. I think taking out the title of the chapter at each scene is better, since that doesn't happen in the actual game. Also, for the part of Yumemi on the floor, I think we should combine all three pictures and then make it into an animation.
The chapter select looks great (although I don't know what the "setvar chapter = 10" is for).
You are working a lot faster than myself (I'm doing some testing to the background and seeing if I can make it more in-game, since I noticed that you also cut off some pieces of the original pictures.)

14 Name: Hogan : 2009-04-22 23:15 ID:TiI/7M7v [Del]

Ah, sorry, that "setvar chapter = 10" was just there for testing purposes. I must removed it after sending it over... And renaming everything was just done as I was converting images (It made it easier when inserting them, as I could remember numbers more easily)

With the animation Idea, that sounds great,
although I'm not sure how you've managed to do it, as awesome as it is. We can use animations in 4 places:

  • The Scene in the fist chapter where the picture pans left to right
  • Same thing as above, but in chapter 17, where the pic is of the white city.
  • The holographic Images in chapter 16
  • the Scene where Yumemi is on the floor, as you suggested.

And roger on the titles.

15 Name: Anonymous : 2009-04-23 07:42 ID:J2VLLLdm [Del]

Ah, so I wasn't crazy when I didn't know what the setvar was for.
Animation is easy, just use the bgload for the pictures and put a delay 6 after each of them (note that I still don't have an actual true test apart from my supposedly moving patch of rain).

16 Name: Anonymous : 2009-05-10 00:52 ID:8MnvwyyL [Del]

Is this still being worked on?

17 Name: Anonymous : 2009-05-10 03:11 ID:FrqlBEnM [Del]

It should be still worked on (I haven't because of AP tests, I have seven of them...)

18 Name: Anonymous : 2009-05-10 06:23 ID:1lEBIZLs [Del]

well, let's just wait

19 Name: Hogan : 2009-05-12 07:22 ID:TiI/7M7v [Del]

ergh, um, yep, its still going, albeit very slowly.
Had quite a few terrible Assignments to plow through in the last few weeks, not to mention 6+ hours wiping/installing Windows which made me want to stab baby pineapples, but hopefully i can get some work done on the between now and exams in June.

20 Name: Hogan : 2009-05-12 07:26 ID:TiI/7M7v [Del]

ah, guess i should also add: Looked at animation, and while it does..kinda work, I'm not sure if it can do what we need it to do. e.g, for the holograph scenes, drop the animation idea: Screen's too small to be able to make it out

I'll have to experiment to see if you can get a fluid, clean animation, something which didn't work last time I played around with the idea. Also have to balance necessity Vs amount of time needed...

21 Name: Anonymous : 2009-05-12 16:24 ID:FrqlBEnM [Del]

lol, necessity vs time, aka need to be better than everyone else vs time left to live. Its is indeed a hard choice.

22 Name: Anonymous : 2009-05-15 06:30 ID:xUE3KPHP [Del]

Wish there's news on Planetarian.

23 Name: tim : 2009-09-13 01:58 ID:kXXSA3Az [Del]

i just played it using the .novel file for omgwtfotl because i was bored and wanted to see if it worked and its a pretty fine job except that there are a few errors here and there e.g. it says "script error:bgimge" and "script error: png" now and there. i also cant hear any sound, but its still a great game without the music which makes it even more heart warming.

24 Name: CXBlackCatXD : 2009-09-13 02:14 ID:FpOk1fG0 [Del]

If I remember correctly, I think I read somewhere that the .novel files screw with the ability for sounds (though come to think of it, I don't think Hogan added the sounds yet lol).
I currently have only the first chapter completed (music, sound, picture, text), but I'll upload my own beta as soon as I get the opening correctly timed (the timing is all over the place so the music doesn't end when the text does) and make semi-fluid (probably going to not turn out all that great but meh) animation.

25 Name: Anonymous : 2009-09-15 02:37 ID:HlESnTpm [Del]

>>24
it also screws with the loading of backgrounds/cgs/etc type images.

26 Name: tim : 2009-09-15 22:27 ID:kXXSA3Az [Del]

i see thank you

27 Name: CXBlackCatXD : 2009-09-16 02:08 ID:FpOk1fG0 [Del]

Well here is a preview/beta of my port of planetarian. Its the opening and the first chapter only (voiced version). I just added some delays after the voices because it makes it really awkward rushing through and listening to her still talking. Then again, I suppose I should have just used "sound ~" instead. I guess I'll change that next time.
The voices are sort of clipped at the end for probably most of the clips (vnds problem, the sound files are fine).
The attempts at animation pretty much failed (viewable in the beta) so I'll probably just stick with the first two tries in the beta and maybe attempt animation in the places that seem best.
I didn't really check anything so if there are strange things left around (apart from the very end of the beta), feel free to tell me what I didn't bother to look for.
As of the moment, I need to reedit Reverie's sprites (trying to make the number of pictures smaller) since it seems that I can fit in about 5 "setimg" without vnds failing.

The rain was pretty good, actually, and I think the sideways scrolling could work better if you added more frames somehow.
Now you're bringing back memories of my attempts to recreate the entire Clannad intro as a slideshow. It didn't pan out due to the different load times of each card, and the fact that the video has to sync with the music. Oh god, that was a nightmare. I eventually settled for 70-80 frames (versus the 200 I was pushing earlier), but even THAT de-synced.

30 Name: XaTh : 2009-09-18 15:12 ID:MMNyHWnZ [Del]

OMG I love you CXBlackCatXD!
I was waiting for this a long time, I hope you gunna finish this great project.. I wish I could help somehow but I'm a noob when it comes to scripting and such. Would be great if someone could put up a tutorial on how to port VN's on the wiki...
Anyways thanks for your work so far I'm looking forward to the whole release =). It's nice to see VNDS isn't dead at all.

btw is this a port of the whole game or the trial?

31 Name: CXBlackCatXD : 2009-09-18 20:40 ID:FpOk1fG0 [Del]

>>29 In the sideways scrolling, I was kind of thinking that if I used too many frames, the size would be quite hefty lol. I just came up with an idea though (since the bgload fade allows it), I think if I use the bgload at like 1 or something low, then I could use the background scrolling image and the foreground image as both setimg (I haven't tried it yet but this would save a ton of space compared to frame-by-frame).

>>30 Lol its going to be a trial because I know how much everyone hates trials (not xD). Nah, I'm going to be porting the entire thing (sound and everything). I contributed a little to the wiki (since I don't think a lot of people look at it) but it was only in the about VNDS section (after the obvious sentence lol).

Also, does anyone have the ability to or know how to fix up the voices, like add a little part to the files of silence at the end so the silence gets clipped off rather than the actual voices. (Maybe I'll try to put up a tutorial on the wiki as well just because it would be cool being credited on the wiki)

32 Name: XaTh : 2009-09-19 07:57 ID:LI7T4+CH [Del]

I think its possible to add silence with Audacity but im not sure if you can batch proccess the files and I dont think ACC is supported. When I get home Imma try anyways hopefully I can figure something out..
Tho the clipping doesn't bother me that much

33 Name: CXBlackCatXD : 2009-09-19 16:05 ID:FpOk1fG0 [Del]

Well, I tried out the animation idea I had earlier and it does work, but at the moment, its still a really choppy looking movement.

I tried looking at audacity and although I can't batch process the files, I can add silence to the end of each voice (original files were .wav thankfully) and pass it through the vnds tools.

I'm actually pretty sure not very many people would be bothered by the clipped voices too (I'm just doing it for the sake of quality).

And I put up a tutorial on the wiki xD. It taught me that I have no skills at making tutorials (when it was closer to the time I usually get up, I started skipping out on some stuff like the small section on "Sound" and the "Day 1" thing...). Hopefully it can help someone though.

34 Name: Boinciel : 2009-09-21 06:27 ID:ytIMTaW4 [Del]

It'll take far too long to manually add silence to every voice clip before you convert it. If I know KEY, there will be about 5000 to 10000 voice clips in Planetarian, and that would take forever.
It'd probably be better to just wait until someone fixes VNDS's code. The clipping isn't added when they're converted; it's when VNDS plays them.

35 Name: XaTh : 2009-09-25 18:53 ID:qfiyKZu0 [Del]

Nice tutorial BlackCat!
It's still kinda confusing but imma get into it ^^.
Hows the porting going?
A friend told me there is a program "Amadeus Pro" wich lets you add silence and batch process, it's not free tho =/. Anyway maybe he'll "lend" me his copy xD.
Maybe you could upload the voices so I can work on those..

36 Name: CXBlackCatXD : 2009-09-28 16:24 ID:FpOk1fG0 [Del]

(I was planning to post this a couple days ago...but various hindrances occured and so this is the third time I had to upload it lol)
As of right now, the porting is on hold lol since there is this awesome website that had uploaded tons of Korean movies, Japanese movies, Chinese movies, dramas, and anime for people to download that is going to close down November 1. (So I'm pretty much just trying to download everything I can nonstop before November 1). But after November 1st, I'll get back to porting lol.
Here are the original voice files that you can play with (if you need the .aac ones, they are in the beta)

LoL, it's okay I've been waiting so long for this it won't hurt to wait some more.. Meanwhile imma play with the sound files, and try to get into scripting some more.
Better get a few extra HDDs, I remember a time when I kept DLing series nonstop for a few months you'll be craving for more space soon ;).
Just make sure to check out this board once in a while ^^.
Oh and thnx for the files of course...

38 Name: Hogan : 2009-10-19 08:06 ID:aIvUIPN8 [Del]

A week before Uni exams is possible the worst time to come back here, but anyway.

G'day G'day, OP here, wow it's been ages.

Blackcat, absoltutely aweosome job with that Into. Try as I could (before I semi-shelved my attempt at this projecty)to get that feeling right, theres no way I could come up animation like that...

A quick question though. any reason you chose the BGs to contain te blue outine? why it looks more like the original, imho I kinda feel the actualy BG that shows what going on is even smaller, making it hard to see whats going on.

a while ago, I spent time cropping/ resizing all the images to look semi-decent on the DS screen, which I'll add here:

http://www.mediafire.com/?dwmynder0mi

Also, I your're curious, I'll also add my old Script files: These (Ignoring the intro, which is fail) are symched up with my bgs, So they load when they're suppossed to. besides the intro..
It also contains a basic chapter select, including the whole "can only view chapters you've unlocked" part:

http://www.mediafire.com/?1mmigyq2jor

Hope they can be of service, and Let us know if I can help further. If it comes down to manually adding in the sounds, if we split it between 3 or so of us, It'l be done faster. if we gotta resort to that.

39 Name: CXBlackCatXD : 2009-10-20 01:35 ID:FpOk1fG0 [Del]

Nice to have you back Hogan xD.
Thanks about the intro. It isn't actually an animation, and right now its only really useful for like 2-3 static frames (one day there will be a way for moving scenes...just one day...).

Really I only left the blue border for some small little things:

  1. I kind of got the feeling that although I do glance at the scenes, I don't really dedicate myself to taking in all of the details (except for CGs xD).
  2. I didn't want to crop images because for people who have already played Planetarium (at least I feel this way), it seems like it was squished into the screen.
  3. It also provides less emphasis on the backgrounds, so when CGs do pop up, they are more noticeable(as if they weren't already).
  4. xD I'm lazy.

Actually I think I have your script files somewhere (I'd have to look in my folder again, haven't looked inside in a while), but I like the chapter select thing (I was going to just call it the load button though, since it made the title screen look less bland).

I really wouldn't want people to do monotonous things like adding silence to sound files so I'd rather do that myself if I can xD (afterall, its just my own little twitches).

I'm going to start back up on Planetarian again (just recorded half of the chapters into dpg files since my school's computers don't seem to have the capacity for Japanese system locale o.0). So if everything goes right, I should have another beta out in a couple of days (depending on school).

40 Name: Hogan : 2009-10-20 03:53 ID:aIvUIPN8 [Del]

haha, yeah, one day some form of video/movie scenes will be avaialble...that'll always be the dream.

With the images, I understand where you're comming from, and I know a few of the images (the seating inside the planetarium for one) didn't translate well to the ds screen. But making the screen-inside a -screen does make it quite hard to fully grasp what's occuring in the Background.

But I guess you're right with the emphasis on the CGs, and at the end of the day, you choose what you feel is best, and it'l turn out sweet. But all the converted backgrounds are in my last post, if you find yourself so inclined.

Out of curiosity, what method have you been/are using to add in the voice files? anything automated in anyway?

41 Name: Hogan : 2009-10-20 04:48 ID:aIvUIPN8 [Del]

Oh, and the wiki page has started to be set up:

http://www.digital-haze.net/vndswiki/index.php?title=Planetarian

42 Name: CXBlackCatXD : 2009-10-20 07:26 ID:FpOk1fG0 [Del]

I think we could just put in both the cropped images and the normal ones as two versions, a picture oriented version (cropped images) and an original feel version (the blue border).
Then again, if I change my mind, I'm definitely just using your cropped images rather than try and crop my own.

As for adding in the silence at the end of the voice files...heh heh well I'm just using audacity (sort of one by one, but its really quick and I don't really notice anything since I just add the silence when I add the voice in the script).

43 Name: CXBlackCatXD : 2009-10-20 20:14 ID:FpOk1fG0 [Del]

xD Hey everyone! Today I spent some real time working on Planetarian and amazingly enough, after over 4 hours of nonstop fixing, we finally have a beta that goes beyond the FIRST CHAPTER!!! and it only goes to the SECOND CHAPTER XD.

I didn't really check it all over, so there might be some odd things everywhere. I haven't put it side-by-side with the PC version yet either, so the facial changes may or may not be at the right times.

Planetarian Beta v02:
http://www.mediafire.com/?dmnwf1ttizm

I tried something a little different this time with the animation in the new part of the beta (chapter 2 where its raining and its a scene of the lamppost). Instead of putting the frames all at once, I just spread it out in between all of the lines.

44 Name: Anonymous : 2009-10-22 11:47 ID:CmNvWIFs [Del]

I really appreciate your effort and your will to share even intermediate results, but I'm not sure if I want to start a new novel right now even though it will end after just two chapters and I'd have to wait for the rest. I'd like to do it for testing purposes, but wouldn't it be better anyway if someone did that who already played the PC version? They would have a basis to judge features like animation and that blue frame on, right?

Sorry. I am however looking forward to the final release.

45 Name: Hogan : 2009-10-25 16:33 ID:/H36YYCk [Del]

g'day g'day,

awesome work so far!
ran through your latest build in synch with the PC, and everything was perfect.

A few things that came up:

  • I get an "[graphics] libpng_err: too many IDAT's found" error just as the screen turns white for the first time (just before her "congratulations!"), But i've got a feeling this may becuase I'm runnig an old r4 on an old DS (mine's been know to produce a few rnadom errors every now and again)
  • Noticed you used the Japanese name instead of 'revirie'. I think I prefer the jap name as well, so +1.
  • At the start of the chapter "sarofogous city..." the sound efects don't loop, unlike the PC, even though, curioslly, you put 'sound ... -1'. perhaps make them .mp3 so you can use them as 'music' and loop them that way?

Beside this, its appears to be going swimmingly. keep up the great work!

46 Name: Anonymous : 2009-11-01 10:50 ID:Ss8rtUgn [Del]

I don't suppose there's any intention of adding the content from the PS2 edition? Or using Reverie's English name?

47 Name: Hogan : 2009-11-02 04:23 ID:efIFVLoe [Del]

er, was the only thing extra in the PS2 version the protaganist's voice? besides higher-rez graphics, which doesn't matter much for a port to a 256x192 screen.
sorry if this is wrong: going off a google translate of Key/Prototypes website here.

and Reverie's name's up to BlackCat, if you would like it I could easily to a batch replace for you

48 Name: CXBlackCatXD : 2009-11-02 09:57 ID:vMVE+HKB [Del]

>>45
I get the same "[graphics] libpng_err: too many IDAT's found" and I'm using the same sort of stuff you are xD, but I think there might be a different reason to the error (I just don't know what it is xD).

I'll try making it an mp3 and see if it works out (I don't understand why it doesn't loop though...)

>>46
Well as of the moment, there isn't any intention of adding the content from the ps2 edition unless someone knows how to get the voices from it...
As for the name, I'm pretty sure that you only see the name like once or twice in the entire game (I was actually surprised that Hogan noticed xD), but if you would like it in English, I can add it in.

So what is Reverie's English name?

In Japanese its Yumemi Hoshino, which acording to wiki is a pun meaning somthing along the lines of 'seing a dream (or reverie) of the plannets' or some such.

because of this, when they went to translate into enlgish, they decided to change her name to Reverie.

This reminds me of some Chinese guy's ebay auctions. He was selling figures of the famous typemoon characters "Amber" and "Jade"...

Reverie Planetarian (for that is her full name) is a pretty accurate translation of Yumemi Hoshino (Hoshino ostensibly meaning "of the planets"; the word "planetarian" fits quite nicely here), and it keeps the all-important title drop intact. (Planetarian: The Reverie of a Little Planet from Planetarian: Chiisana Hoshi no Yume.) Personally, I wouldn't want any changes made to the finished Insani translation whatsoever. It would only serve to lessen the impact.

The PS2 version was full-voice, not just the two main characters. According to Wikipedia, the PS2 version also had an extended soundtrack. There may or may not be additional graphics; I can't confirm or deny this. (I have a copy, but no means to play it or otherwise access the content on the disc.)

But Hogan's offering to change the name (I'm pretty sure it's a quick "Find and replace" command, am I right?) I suppose that doesn't matter.
Still, PS2 version... Do you have an actual hard copy or a rom? I'm sure ripping apart a rom would be a bit easy. Though I've never worked with anything PlayStation related.
How much would the voices boost the file size? I'm pretty sure Fate/Stay Night voiced version more than doubled it's original size.

Yeah it is a simple find and replace. I just checked and her name appears 7 times in the entire game.

I'm pretty sure there are resources to get the voices from the ps2 version (at least that is what I'm guessing, people these days do everything o.0). I suppose I could try looking into it (I need to get a copy of it somehow though xD). If I can get it all out, the I'll probably incorporate it into the port (woot for more file converting...just when I believed myself to be done xD).

A couple of side notes, I went over to the wiki and looked at the reference (google translate sucks but it sometimes gets things across). It does say enhanced graphics and full VA, but I didn't see anything that sounded like extended soundtrack (so only way to be sure would be to look at the ps2 cd or something).

On the Reverie's name thing, I left it as Yumemi Hoshino pretty much because it matched with the voice acting (I found it disconcerting listening to the voices and reading something different, not that I comprehend Japanese...but I can kind of put the two together) and I just thought reverie was more of a daydreaming sort of thing, a little different from a dream or hope.

Of course, it is super simple to just change the name to English, so I guess we can just put up one of the script files as an extra to change the name at will or something. (I'm thinking along the lines of using a variable as a boolean value and just have the main.scr turn it on or off, that way everyone just has to overwrite 1 file rather than like 4 because then it wouldn't need to be compressed/zipped up.)

xD since everyone was saying a translation of the title and her name, I wanted to say one too (a sense of being left out? a grasping hand for help with loneliness? nope, just procrastinating on my homework xD).

I think Yumemi just means dream (and the evil, not so evil but very awesome translators just didn't want to call her "Dream Planetarian" xD), Hoshino as the possessive form of Planet (so Planet's? "of the planet" sounds nicer though), and the title as "Planetarian: Little Planet's Dream" (xD sounds so corny, so maybe "Planetarian: Dream of a Little Planet").

Well, I'm back after a bit of research and the such-like. As it turns out, I grabbed myself the ps2 version and I am able to take out the voices from the ps2 version (and his voice is really low xD). The only bad part is that all of the files play the beginning of itself at the very end (a small fraction of it). Hopefully (I'll need to check later), that glitch in VNDS might save me the effort and cut off the end of those files xD. The only real problem I see now is just changing either the scripts or the files to put them in...all 1225 of them...most likely I'm going to change the script instead of the files. Taking out all the files is immensely annoying though xD (luckily my computer could finish it in about 1-2 minutes).

So as of right now, the Planetarian port is going to be the complete version, but we have to hope that the files can get super compressed...as they are now, they take up 567mb alone.

Does anyone know of a program that can batch clip wav files because attempting to clip each file one by one would be murder.

I think you may be out of luck, just googled it and the only page that came up when it was put in quotation marks was this one.

I've used an audio editor called Creative Wavestudio for various tasks before so it might be worth checking out, don't have a clue if you can use it for that though. ><

Well...as of the moment, I'm kind of stuck about this port. My DS had a run in with the floor and the floor won, so my DS is now a heap of nonworking hardware... I could probably continue porting the visual novel, but because I can't really test anything, I have no idea if anything is wrong or not and I'm debating whether I should continue porting and possibly have glitches everywhere or wait and hopefully get a DS in the near future...

"Take it easy."
It sucks enough your DS got broke, you don't need to compound that by suddenly having a massive amount of bugs to deal with when you get it replaced. I know I'll be happy enough when it gets finished, doesn't matter if it's delayed a bit.

60 Name: Hogan : 2009-11-26 01:57 ID:uhObEuRM [Del]

haha, damn, that's unfortunate. at least is had a good run though, ey?

and I agree, take it easy. It'l be done when It's done, and we'll help when we can

61 Name: CXBlackCatXD : 2010-02-15 21:04 ID:FpOk1fG0 [Del]

Well, I decided to forgo hoping for a DS (since there doesn't seem to be much chance of a replacement) and restart my plodding on this port xD.
As unfortunate as I am, (I lost where I put my original files) I luckily can still download the beta I released before my DS went to heaven. In any case, I don't think I lost any major progress (but that may become evident later on if I'm missing some images, etc.).

I haven't found anything that could help me with the voices so instead of hoping for some non-existant program, I'm just going to hopefully quickly and painlessly silence the echo of all 1244 files and plug them into the script (I'll keep it as a separate download though, then people can choose if they want full voice acting or just Yumemi).

A program I really would find useful would be a desktop recorder (with ability to record sounds) so I can record Planetarian and properly place the sprites and voices (my school's computer still can't change to Japanese locale), preferably something free.

you COULD try the computer emulator

63 Name: CXBlackCatXD : 2010-02-16 22:15 ID:FpOk1fG0 [Del]

A computer emulator? For recording the desktop right? I mean if setting up a computer emulator only takes maybe 5-10 minutes, then I guess a computer emulator would work (although I would much rather work with a video of the game since it is quicker and easier to set up). The second problem with my school's computers is that the computers are pretty much wiped and reset every day, so no files accumulated during the day can be passed on to the next day.

you can try doing it at home...? not at school?

Good to hear you're picking this up again. As for a desktop recording software I highly recommed "camtasia studio" it has a 30 day trial, after that it'll be 300 bucks, lol. It is the best out there tho... There also is an open source program "camstudio" wich could be considert an alternative, but I didn't try that one and I don't know if it supports audio recording.

http://camstudio.org/ camstudio ^^

I could do this sort of thing at home, but usually I spend the better part of my Monday, Wednesdays, and Fridays staring at a school computer playing my wonderful 11 minute stepmania song xD.
At home, my parents kick me off the computer when I'm not doing something productive.

>>66
xD Its kind of good to get back onto this (although attempting to port Wanko sounds fun, dunno what defines the variables in the script for that one though xD). I actually have heard of both of those programs, and I actually have camstudio on my computer. I ended up using the generic HyperCam though, which I surprisingly didn't remember until just recently xD.

Tell them you are porting eroge for those in need and that this is a very productive thing to do.

o.0 saving bump? What exactly are you saving?

Maybe trying to make you actually work on it, you lazy bum.

lol I'm surprised you actually still go on the forums xD (I would have thought you would just say it on the IRC). I'll probably finish it eventually...it's just the dam voice files really that make me feel so defeated. At this point, I have about 60 of the 1200+ voices ready for vnds...I still have about 1140+ more voices to manually listen to and silence the ending of...unless someone wants to do that for me?

74 Name: ShinseiTom : 2010-11-03 01:58 ID:GkYzYgp7 [Del]

I still read the forums, but because I haven't been doing much except gaming with friends in my spare time and college work, I haven't had any time to really mess with VNDS.

Just do the VN voiceless. Get it done and out there with a little switch for turning on the voices so that if somebody else wants to they can mess with getting them to work.

75 Name: Roganis : 2010-11-04 15:19 ID:MfIRxwvu [Del]

what about a non-voiced version first ?

Hi guys :) Not sure if this forum is still active.
But here is my vnds port for Planetarian(Tested with my Android phone), It is just a very quick work, I done over the past two days (: So there might still be a few error. I will be glad to have a tester to list out the errors so I could correct them if there is going to be update.

Planetarian v0.1: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?8z9cqhyda2neoa7

I used Hogan's picture + some of mine and also used CXBlackCatXD script as reference :)
