Cato

Previously the chief advisor of Amicus, Cassius, and Virginia's father; now the interim emperor of Adastra following his death. Though Amicus, the late emperor's eldest son, would normally ascend to the throne by default, Cato proposes a competition between the two brothers instead, due to Cassius's higher popularity.

A veteran of the wolves' most recent war with the Khemians, he harbors an intense hatred of the jackals. Privately supports Cassius's claim to the throne, both because he can easily control him and because of their shared isolationist foreign policy views, especially with regard to Adastran-Khemian relations./

Rigs the competition for the throne in Cassius's favor and imprisons Amicus after discovering Marco's true identity, but not before Amicus blinds him./

Physically assaults Neferu, an event that Neferu covertly records on video. The recording is later released by Cato himself in order to cause the greatest possible damage to Adastran-Khemian relations./

Poisons Emperor Cassius and seizes power after Amicus's faction blackmails Cassius into abdicating, dissolving the Triumvirates and centralizing power around the throne. Attempts to force Virginia to marry him in order to legitimize his rule./

Attempts to execute Neferu on false charges of espionage, but is interrupted by Amicus, who challenges him to combat for the throne. He is ultimately killed when Marco intervenes in their battle, but not before mortally wounding Marco./

Revealed to have orchestrated the death of the previous emperor and to have sabotaged official investigations into the matter./
